Calapooia Classic - The Flight Crew Travels to Albany

Next Adventure Disc Golf Team

This past weekend flight crew members Ryan, Joey, and I traveled south to Albany to play in the annual Calapooia Classic Disc Golf Tournament.

This year’s tournament was once again held at Bryant Park which is nestled on the bank of the Willamette River in downtown Albany. The course is known for its long wooded holes which challenges every shot in your bag and that’s exactly what it did. We all had our share of great shots, lucky shots, and unlucky shots.

In the pro field Ryan and I were both frustrated by our last rounds. However, Ryan’s was good enough to sneak him far enough up the leader board to bring home some cash. The advanced field was a two man race with Joey and once Portland local Tim McDill. They battled all three rounds with McDill coming out on top. Both played great and pretty much ran away from the rest of the advanced field.

Some other local Portlanders put up some nice scores and brought home some cash! Dan Zents and Jason McGrew battled it out in the third round. McGrew made up 3 stokes in the last few holes but it wasn’t enough to catch Zents as he took down his first Pro Masters win! Traveling pro Tim Skellinger held off local pro Jason Pinkal as both Portlanders finished first and second in the men’s pro division.

We want to say thanks to the crew in Albany for running a great tournament and having the course in beautiful shape to play. A big thank you also goes out to Calapooia brewing for not only sponsoring the tournament but hosting the player’s party after the last round. The flight crew had a great time and we are sure to be back next year.

Reminder: Tomorrow the Next Adventure Amateur Championship (NAAC) kicks off at Blue Lake Disc Golf Course. Make sure to come out and check out the action! Next Adventure always puts on a great show with festivities for everyone! Click here for details. Click here to read about last years NAAC.
