The 2012 Chick Flick Women’s Disc Golf Celebration, and the summer heat, had record-setting intentions during the weekend of August 4th and 5th.
As the mercury rose in the thermometer, so did the number of lady golfers at the 5th annual gathering, traditionally hosted by Horning’s Hideout in North Plains, Oregon.
With 109 women in attendance, and 102 golfers competing in the PDGA sanctioned rounds, Chick Flick 2012 set the record for the largest single women-only event in PDGA history!
For some disc golfers, the transition from summer to fall means winding down the golf season and putting away the discs for a few months. For other golfers (myself included) it means arranging your work schedule to sneak in a round before dark, and playing tournaments that challenge your ability to stay in the game in spite of challenging weather and/or course conditions. The first of these rainy season tournaments is the mighty Hab/Rec, held the first weekend of October at Milo McIver State Park in Estacada. With all 36 holes of this tough course in use, the added possibility of pouring rain and blustering winds, and noticeably shorter days, you have a recipe for testing your winter golf preparedness.
On August 13, 2011, nearly 100 women gathered in the forrested canyons of Horning's Hideout to play disc golf at the fourth annual Chick Flick, sponsored by Next Adventure. Lady golfers of all experience and ability levels, many with caddies in tow, participated in clinics, learned official rules, and gained tournament play experience, all while enjoying delicious food and making new friends in our private event campground.
