About Patrick: After finishing my Bachelors degree at the University of Iowa (Go Hawks!!) I moved out to Portland for year round snowboarding. I took a random whitewater kayaking class at Mt. Hood Community College and got my roll my first try. That semester the instructor asked me to help teach kayaking classes and I have been doing so ever since. At MHCC I helped teach rock climbing, rafting, skiing, snowboarding, mountaineering, backpacking, and kayaking classes and I love all things outdoors. My favorite types of trips are multi-day trips but enjoy anytime outdoors whether it’s riding my bike to work or spending a month on the Deschutes; I'm always looking forward to my Next Adventure.

About Michael: I began my kayak career in flat water sprinting for Seattle University, medaling as the Collegiate National Champion in the Novice Division, 7 months after learning to kayak. As an avid outdoors man and conservationist, it was a slippery slope to guiding and acting as a marine naturalist in the San Juan and Southern Gulf Islands. While guiding, my passion for education morphed into a desire to instruct paddling, and a pretty girl and the potential of a year 'round paddling gig brought me to Portland. At Next Adventure, I have been able to continue my passion and goal to grow as an instructor, and to keep growing our professional school. I enjoy all things paddling, cooking (everything from traditional italian family recipies to seared fish), hiking, mountaineering, playing several bluegrassy instruments (some better than others), and David Attenborough narrated nature documentaries. I will always choose Rainier over PBR.

About Adam: After graduating from PSU in 2010 I took two years extra to complete pre reqs for a gradaute program. During that time I worked at Portland State's Outdoor Program and learned all the things. This led to me moving to Alaska for two consecutive summers to guide and explore as well as numerous side trips in the off season guiding and playing up and down the west coast. I have instructed and led trips ranging from day hikes to expedition style whitewater missions. I love them all. Helping people find their comfort level in the outdoors is always a rewarding experience.
As the son of a pastor and psychologist, I always go to church. My favorite runs are the Wind, Green Truss, the Little White Salmon and the Sandy Gorge. Once the winter rains come you'll often find me at Canyon Creek or the East Fork of the Lewis in the wee hours of the morning drinking cowboy coffee and crushing boofs with friends before work.
Certifications: First Aid/CPR Certified. Wilderness First Aid Certified. Sage, Columbia, Simms, Rio, and Reddington Endorsed.
Education: Graduate of the Sweetwater Guide School
About Tanner: I've been guiding for the last 4 years in Oregon, Washington, New Mexico, Colorado, and Montana. I've been fishing since before I could walk and fly fishing since the age of 6. Since then my life has revolved around getting after trout, salmon, steelhead, bass, and carp. I especially enjoy instructing first time fly anglers from kayaks, shore, or drift boats. I get a great deal of satisfaction out of seeing a first time angler land a fish. From casting to fly tying instruction, I can show you the ins and outs of kayak fishing. Sign up for a Next Adventure Kayak Fishing Class if you would like to learn to learn how to get fish in the boat!
Certifications: ACA level 4 certified whitewater kayaking instructor.
About Stephen: As a new Portland transplant (from the east coast), Stephen is enjoying all things Portlandia, but especially the amazing whitewater. He enjoys finding new places to kayak, and the PNW never fails to deliver an exciting new river. As an ACA-Level-4 certified whitewater kayaking instructor, Stephen also enjoys sharing the river with new paddlers, Seeing a student develop new skills on the water gets him just as excited as seeing a new river for the first time.
