Diamond Lake is a great base camp for this little part of OR. The lake is sandwiched in between Mt Bailey and Mt Thielsen. There are several campgrounds around the lake and I chose to set up camp at Diamond Lake Campground. The others had already been closed up for the winter. Diamond Lake Campground is by far the biggest and during the prime summer months gets busy. This area is popular for Southern Oregonians from Ashland, Medford, and Grants Pass. Diamond Lake Camping What's great is the abundance of activities close by. Swimming, fishing, kayaking, paddle boarding, biking (paved trail surrounds the lake and plenty of forest service roads), hiking etc. I chose to summit Mt Bailey for a Saturday adventure. This is a 10ish mile in and out hike and with the great weather provide fantastic 360 degree views. Diamond Head, Bachelor, Broken Top, 3 Sisters to the north. Thielsen to the east. Crater Lake rim and McLoughlin to the south. With so many activities you could easily spend 5 days here. Well worth the drive. Diamond Lake Camping
