Q: Why is Next Adventure closing?
After 28 incredible years, founders Deek Heykamp and Bryan Knudsen are retiring. What began in 1997 as a 1,500-square-foot shop built on a dream has become a Portland institution — thanks to our amazing customers, staff, and community. As Deek and Bryan step into their next adventure, we’ll be closing our doors with gratitude and pride.

Q: When does the Going Out of Business Sale start?

The sale begins Wednesday, May 28, 2025. Come early for the best selection — once it’s gone, it’s gone.

Q: Are rentals still available? 

Grand, PSC, and Sandy: Rental operations will end on May 19
Scappoose Bay Kayak Center: Rentals will continue through the summer

Q: How long am I able to make purchases online?

You can make purchases online until May 19th. The remainder of purchases must be made in store.

Q: Can I still use a gift card?

Yes — gift cards (digital and physical) will still be accepted. However, no new gift cards will be issued after May 25, 2025.

Q: Can I return an item, exchange and item, use a warranty, or place something on layaway?

As of May 26, 2025: All sales are final.
No returns,exchanges, layaways, or warranty services will be available

Q: Will there still be tune or repair services?

Tune shop and repair services will end after May 19, 2025

Q: Are you still buying used gear?

We’re pausing used gear buying. If this changes we will send updates.

Updates to Return and Shipping Policies:

Final Return Deadline: Returns, exchanges, warranties, and layaways will no longer be accepted after Sunday, May 25, 2025. All return requests must be completed by this date. All Sales Are Final Beginning May 28: Starting May 28, 2025, all purchases made during the Going Out of Business Sale are final sale. No returns, exchanges, price adjustments, or warranty claims will be accepted during this time—no exceptions.

No Shipping after May 19th when web sales end.
