No.08 Stainless Steel

The one everybody pictures when they hear Opinel. The No.08 has been made in Savoie since the 1890s and has barely changed, because the design was right the first time: a beechwood handle, a Sandvik 12C27 stainless blade, and the Virobloc ring that Joseph Opinel's grandson added in 1955 to lock it open.

A 3.28 inch blade at 1.6 oz covers most of what a knife gets asked to do around a camp or a kitchen. It is inexpensive enough to keep one in every pack and good enough that you will not want to.
