Trip Report: Opal Creek

opal creek The road getting to the trial head is full of pot holes and you will have no phone service. The parking lot is big and you have to pay $5 for a parking pass. The trail was pretty easy to moderate; 4 mile round trip hike with lots of shade. There were a few trails that broke off from the mail trail, but stay straight. While on the main trail you will cross a bridge, see an old mill, and an old steam engine. You will eventually reach the historic mining town of Jawbone Flats, that is still being used as an educational center. Once you cross the Battle-Axe Bridge you will see a sign for the Opal Pool. The water actually looked emerald. The water was too cold to swim this time of the year, but would be great in the summer time.
