Full Review: I paddled this boat around Scappoose Bay into the wetlands area during a leisurely paced guided tour. I am a taller paddler and the ease of getting into this boat and being comfortable took me by surprise. The Rip 12 has a larger cockpit and very strong "V" shaped hull. You can really feel the stability from the moment you get into this kayak. The Rip 12 would be a great boat for someone looking to get out on the water and enjoy the scenery without having to put too much effort toward balancing. It travels nicely in the water for a recreation kayak and has a dry hatch you can store gear in. The only draw back I felt was that it did not glide through the water as nice as I would have liked.

All in all, the Necky Rip 12 is an ideal boat for those recreational paddlers looking to get on the water, be carefree, and flat out paddle.

The Good List: Good hull design, affordable, large cockpit for larger paddlers, a nice dry hatch, and very stable.

The Not so Good List: Loses momentum, only one dry hatch, and little edge control.

The Bottom Line: The Necky Rip12 is a good kayak for the beginner or leisurely paddler. It has lots of room in the cockpit area and felt like a solid simple recreation kayak.
