Trip Report: Hiking Dry Creek Falls
Hiking up to Dry Creek Falls in Oregon with my dog and friends was an amazing adventure! This beautiful trail offers picturesque views and a stunning waterfall as the reward. The hike is over 4 miles roundtrip and the trailhead can be accessed from the Historic Columbia River Highway.
To access the trail, drive along the Historic Columbia River Highway (Highway 30) until you reach the marked trailhead. There is a small parking area available for hikers. Make sure to keep your dog on a leash as you begin the hike.
The trail itself is well-maintained and clearly marked, making it easy to navigate. The hike is of moderate difficulty, with some inclines and uneven terrain, but it is manageable for most hikers and their four-legged companions. At one point, it crosses the PCT, or the Pacific Crest Trail, and now I can say I have been on a section of it, albeit about 20 feet worth.
Throughout the hike, you'll be surrounded by lush greenery and towering trees, creating a peaceful and scenic atmosphere. The trail crosses over Dry Creek multiple times, providing opportunities for your dog to cool off and drink water. My dog found an area with a small waterfall, and she had a blast playing in that area, and getting all wet.
As you make your way towards the falls, the sound of rushing water grows louder, building anticipation for the grand finale. Finally, you'll arrive at the base of Dry Creek Falls, a magnificent waterfall cascading down a rocky cliff. It's an awe-inspiring sight and a great spot to rest, take photos, and soak in the beauty of nature. My dog, Frankie, struck a pose for the photo, and was loving all the other dogs nearby.
The trail is dog-friendly, but remember to bring waste bags and clean up after your pet to help maintain the cleanliness of the trail. Also, keep in mind that the area can get muddy during wet seasons, so appropriate footwear is recommended. The trail is rocky, so make sure to wear some shoes with good soles as well.
Overall, hiking up to Dry Creek Falls with my dog was a great experience. The well-marked trail, breathtaking waterfall, and dog-friendly environment made it a perfect outing for both of us.
