2013 Oregon Splitfest Recap
The 2nd annual Oregon Splitfest was a huge success. People from all over the Northwest came to Mt. Hood to meet other splitboarders, demo the latest and greatest splitboard equipment, and earn their turns.
Chris and I headed up to the mountain Friday to have a little fun before setting up demos at Charlie's at PM. We did a quick skin up Salmon river canyon and shot a few photos during the magic hour.
After getting our fix, we headed to Charlie's to set up 2013-14 boards from Venture, Rossignol, Roxy, G3, and Rome.
The next morning we headed up South side with some new friends. We skinned from Timberline lodge to Illumination Saddle, where we enjoyed the sunshine before separating from the group to find some fresh lines.
Chris and I decided to go down into Zigzag Canyon, an awesome area on the south side filled with endless aspects and chutes to play on. Chris found this gem.
On the way through the chute at the bottom of the line, Chris caused a small wet slide. An important reminder to be smart when in the backcountry.
After riding another thousand feet of great snow into the bottom of the canyon, we had to kick it into overdrive to make it back to Charlie's for demo returns and the raffle. All raffle proceeds went to NWAC (Northwest Weather and Avalanche Center), a non-profit that releases avalanche danger reports for the entire Northwest on the daily. If your not familiar with NWAC, check them out at http://www.nwac.us/ it's a necessity for all backcountry enthusiasts. Here are some very happy attendees who won some big ticket items from the raffle!
Huge thanks to Venture, Spark R&D, G3, Rome, Roxy, and Rossignol for sending out demo equipment. Also a big shout out to Geoff and Chris for coordinating the event!
Splitfest might be over, but the season is just starting. Be smart in the backcountry but don't forget to
SPLASH!!!
