The Full Review:
The Atomic Shifts are hands down the best touring bindings I've ever owned. And I’ll say that it was a bit of a risk buying them because the technology is still new. But...It works!! I’ve done plenty of resorts days and backcountry days in these and am still singing their praises!
First, I’ll say they are very easy to use. To put them in "tour" mode all you need to do is pull down a clip in-between the toe piece. Then when you are ready you can use your ski pole to widen the pins to slip your boots in. I have yet to have an issue with the pins, they seem very durable to me. When touring uphill I was happy to find how light they feel and glad not to have the friction of using a frame binding.
To me, they felt no different from any other tech set up. Lastly, I was impressed with the bomber heel that sets them apart from other tech bindings. These bindings lock down the back heel like any other alpine binding. This means you can feel confident in your binding every line you ski, backcountry or resort! This has made a world of difference for me and is very confidence inspiring.
The Good:
Durable and lightweight, the best of both worlds!
The Bottom Line:
The shifts are the NEW NEW of 2019. This is basically the binding the world has been waiting for. 1 Binding that does it all, and does is well!
