Gear Review: Berley Pro Bumper Bro Kayak Keel Guard
We invest a lot of our hard-earned money to own one of these fishing kayaks and longevity is extremely important for our long-term use. When it comes to kayaks, the point of contact that endures the most wear is the keel underneath the bow. The consistency of contact of the keel from launching or coming into the boat launch nose first will slowly rub the plastic down. With the continued wear, it can eventually lead to a hole over time.
One accessory offered to prevent this damage is the Berley Pro Bumper Bro. This kayak keel protector is formed to suit your specific kayak and protect the nose when making contact on surfaces that can damage the kayak. It’s made from thermoformed ABS plastic and is easily installed using a marine grade adhesive. Every kayak that I’ve personally owned has had one installed and I can always have a piece of mind everywhere I decide to take my kayak.
The nice thing is they are built for specific models making purchase easier. All you need to install is some GOOP marine adhesive and a strap or painters’ tape to keep pressure during the curing process. Let it adhere for 24 hours and you can use it immediately after! This $49 purchase in my opinion is worth the investment for all fishing kayaks, especially when we are spending thousands. Next Adventure carries them for most popular models and can special order one for your specific model if Berley Pro produces it!
