Gear Review: Boardworks Badfish MCIT SUP

Value Rating: 10 Durability Rating: 10 Overall Rating: 10 Location of Test: Clackamas River Duration of Test: 3 trips ~ 6 hours Product Name: Badfish MCIT SUP Product Brand: Boardworks Best Use: Advanced River Running, Surfing, Flat water Size: 10' 6" x 35 x 5.5" 2 side fins with 1 removable center fin Badfish The Full Review: This paddleboard is a blast! I've taken it out 3 times now because I just can't get enough! Super responsive, extremely durable, can hold its own in rough water no problem. The outside chambers make paddling this board like bowling with the bumpers up, you're just not going in the water unless you're really getting after it. It is hands down the most stable and responsive board I have ever stepped foot on. Badfish Here's the breakdown. This board is made up of 3 separate air chambers. The deck makes up one of them, inflate it to 12 or 14 psi and you have a solid platform to work with. The design allows for the deck to be lower to the water in comparison to other boards allowing for a lower center of gravity and therefore, more stability. The outside chambers make up the other 2. These are inflated to 7 psi to allow for more cushion on impact. The use of multiple chambers is a brilliant idea when it comes to inflatable SUPs. Hull designs are possible now that were only available with a rigid board prior to this. Ultimately the design lowers your center of gravity while also adding an incredible amount of initial and secondary stability. Great for whitewater.
The Good Extremely responsive. The paddleboard is like an extension of your feet. Hop onto the back of this board and get the nose in the air and you can pivot turn all day long. The outside chambers are a highly noticeable characteristic when it comes to maintaining balance. Badfish With 3 separate chambers, you'd think this board takes forever to pump up, right?! Wrong!! The deck is thinner and narrower than most traditional inflatable SUPS and the outside chambers only need to be pumped to 7 psi. This thing is inflated in a heartbeat. Badfish The 3-fin setup with the removable center fin gives you the option of paddling without the center fin while still maintaining a fair amount of tracking ability. This is a noticeable benefit in low depth rivers or rivers with large boulders under the surface, you'll glide right over without getting that annoying fin bumping off any rocks. The Bad: Honestly hard to come up with much. If I had to focus on one issue it would simply be that water has the tendency to climb aboard while you're doing your pivot turns. Sinking the back end into the water to make those tight turns puts water on the surface of the board, just like any other board, but it pools between the deck and the outside chambers. A little rocking back and forth and you're back to a dry board. In my opinion, it's a small price to pay for such an incredibly stable board. The Bottom Line: You're reading this review when really you should be paddling this board! Bottom Line: Stable, Versatile, More responsive than that girl you're texting, you need to get on this board!
