Full Review:
The first time I paddled a SUP down whitewater I used a recreational inflatable SUP. I had a blast, but the board kept taco-ing and folding in on me. When I tried the Baron 6 at the Clackamas Whitewater Race, I noticed a huge difference in performance. The Baron 6 is pretty thick so it was very rigid making it easier to turn, gain speed, and make it through the rapids upright. This board is pretty cool. It rolls up into an easy to carry backpack and it comes with some fins in case I want to take it out on some flat water and do some fly fishing or possibly the ocean. The board is really stable and I would highly recommend it to beginners and intermediate SUP'ers. The board would also be a great yoga board because of the soft top and stability.
"The Good" List: Stable, rigid, and the backpack is awesome.
"The Not so Good List": Not quite as maneuverable as the Czar or other whitewater SUP's. The pump that came with it looks kind of cheap, but is still holding up.
The Bottom Line: The Baron is a great all around board and I definitely want to get one. It isn't the highest performing whitewater SUP, but it is also great for people who are beginners and intermediate whitewater stand up paddle boarders. The Baron can also be used for a lot of various other applications. I can't wait to get one and take it out to the surf zone to see how it handles on the coast.
