Gear Review: Sweet Protection Rocker Full Face Kayak Helmet

Value Rating: 9 Durability Rating: 10 Overall Rating: 10 Location of Test: Whitewater Rivers of Oregon Duration of Test: 3 months Product Name: Rocker Full Face Kayak Helmet Product Brand: Sweet Protection Best Use: Whitewater kayaking of all kinds Sizes: S-XL Sweet Protection Rocker Full Face Kayak Helmet The Full Review: The Sweet Protection Rocker Full Face is the absolute top of the line whitewater helmet on the market. This is what you see the pro's wearing as they run big drops and "manky" creeks all over the world. The best thing about this helmet is the comfort. It is thoroughly padded so you don't develop any single pressure points. This also means the helmet is not going to be shaking about as you paddle. The helmet also offers quick adjustability for tightening and a snug fit to your head once you've got it on. The Rocker Full Face helmet offers so much contact with your head and face that it actually keeps you warm! If you are paddling anywhere near the Pacific Northwest or in winter at all you know this is a nice feature. Sweet Protection Rocker Full Face Kayak Helmet Sweet Protection Rocker Full Face Kayak Helmet Now let’s talk about the actual protection the helmet offers. It’s Sweet Protection! The Rocker Full Face has a 2-piece ABS thermoplastic shell. Layered in between that is Carbon Fiber, which is extremely light yet very durable. Because of how this helmet is layered, it offers "soft spots" which means there are places for the energy of an impact to be released so this helmet can take repeated impacts. With most 1-piece plastic helmets, a single impact can crack the shell and leave the helmet unusable again. Lastly is the Jaw Bar which is why this helmet is called a "Full Face". This bar comes down right in front of your jaw area protecting your mouth and chin. It also makes it very difficult for anything to impact your face or nose. Sweet Protection Rocker Full Face Kayak Helmet The Good Light Comfortable Highly Durable Highly adjustable Offers the most protection possible Looks sexy ;) The Bad: Nothing bad about staying safe on the water! The Bottom Line: The bottom line is if you like your face and want to keep your teeth, get a rocker full face. These are the absolute best helmets on the market. There is a lot of gear involved when it comes to whitewater kayaking, but 1 piece of gear you don't want to skimp on is the thing that protects your head!
