The Fish Creek trail, just off the Clackamas River, is an absolutely beautiful hike, especially in the winter time! I spent about 2 or 3 hours out there and had the trail all to myself. To get there, just type ‘Fish Creek Campground’ into your GPS and once you get there keep driving up the road about 2 miles. There you will see a pull of that looks like an old shooting range. Through there you will find a beautiful and remote trail that follows Fish Creek for quite a way. Along the trail, you will see old volcanic rock, indigenous plants, and undisturbed wildlife. There are also different stops where you can walk down to the water and see the beautiful bedrock in the creek. The water is a deep clear blue color and looks amazingly pure. I’m sure though if you went after a big rain you would find a brown raging river.
I stopped along the rocks for a while that had some rich green moss covering them. This was a great place to go and experience some solitude. I didn't hike as far as I had hoped since I spent so much time checking out the creek. But from what I hear there are some beautiful waterfalls along that creek somewhere if you are willing to do a long day hike. (send us some pics if you find them!) All in all, this is a beautiful trail with very little traffic on it. I would suggest it to all levels of hikers. Enjoy!
