Trip Report: Lower Columbia River Kayaking - Scappoose to Aldrich Point

Michael, from the Next Adventure Paddle Sports Center, and I led an intrepid group of 5 people from the Scappoose Bay Paddling Center down the Columbia River to Aldrich point over the course of 4 days. The group consisted of 7 people in total, paddling 2 tandem kayaks and 3 singles.
Day one consisted of just over 11.6 nautical miles from Scappoose to Sandy Island, where we camped for the night. Michael however, forgot the eggs for the next morning's breakfast in his refrigerator at home, so we both paddled from our campground on the island to the nearby town of Kalama so he could buy eggs, and then paddled back. The 10-15 knot winds blowing in from the west made for some confused seas as we pretty much raced each other both ways.
Day 2 we paddled just shy of 17 nautical miles from Sandy Beach to our next campsite at Crims Island.
Day 3 totaled 11 nautical miles from Crims to Puget Island's SE corner.
The final day was from Puget Island to Aldrich point, 12 nautical miles away, via the Cut Off slough that runs through Puget Islands east end, and then through Birnie Slough, and then crossing over and hand railing the Oregon shore to Aldrich point.
Total nautical miles: 51.51
The group did very well and there were no problems with paddling the distances each day.
