Trip Report: Middle Fork of the Salmon River - Next Adventure

Trip Report: Middle Fork of the Salmon River

--When, Where, Conditions--
When: June 16 2015 - June 22 2015
Location: Middle Fork of the Salmon river, ID
Conditions: The Middle Fork of the Salmon River was busy with people wanting to take advantage of the great weather and water conditions before the summer heat dropped river levels. The first couple of days were filled with rocks and low water lines to test your boating skills. As you put miles behind you, more creeks and tributaries come in and each day the river becomes more and more beautiful. The rapids start to get super fun as the scenery continues to get better and better.
Duration: 7 days.

--Helpful Info--
Difficulty: Class 3 whitewater, some considered class 4 depending on water levels.
Kid Friendly? Yes
Pet Friendly? Yes

The Report: The Middle Fork of the Salmon river is a beauty. There are hot springs to stop and get out at basically everyday, and permits allow camping for one night at a personal group hotspring! The community of boaters on the Salmon is knowledgeable and committed to letting every person experience the river in their own way. Not once did I feel uncomfortable at a hot spring, around another trip, or floating by the fishing guides/outfitters. The camps are spotless and beautiful with great groover spots. The fishing is unbelievable (catch & release!), and the wildlife is non stop with loads of mountain goats, birds of prey, etc!!

Cherish the second half of the trip as you drop away from the fire scarred landscape and start to make your way into the canyon. This trip is wondrous for both rafters and kayakers alike, with hundreds of play waves, massive holes, and plenty of wave trains. Our group decided to continue onto the Main Fork, then the Snake river after that, which makes a heck of a trip! Go get some!!
