Trip Report: Spring Snow Camping at Wall Lake

When: 03/17/18 Location: Wall Lake, Oregon Conditions: Clear, sunny, a bit chilly with snow! Duration: 2 days 1 night Difficulty: Easy hiking, though this time of year will require some extra cold weather gear Usefull links: www.oregonhikers.org Wall Lake Full Report: My trip to Wall Lake last spring is such an awesome memory. We had wonderful weather which included some snow. We weren't expecting snow but luckily, we were prepared for it. Having Gore-Tex gear and lots of wool and fleece really made a difference out there. One thing that also saved me was my waterproof hiking boots. We often had to cross small creeks and step through lots of snow. The hike to the lake was not too difficult and offered some beautiful scenery. We even caught an awesome view of Mt. Jefferson while we were on our way. At that time of year, you will hardly see anyone else out on the trail. The sense of solitude was really amazing. Wall Lake Once out on the lake, we found some nice flat spots to pitch out tents. We sat and cooked dinner by the lake and watched the sunset. We had a beautiful view of Olallie Butte from our camp spot there. It was really convenient to be by the lake because we hadn't packed in a lot of water, so we filtered water from the lake and used it for cooking and drinking. We had heard mention of bears and cougars in the area and also saw some tracks in the snow at one point. We were glad we brought bear cans and made sure not to bring anything food into our tents. While that may be a bit unnerving, the amazing solitude in nature was worth every second. I even got up on the day we left to watch the sunrise over the lake. What an amazing sight it was. I would highly suggest this trip to anyone. Wall Lake
