The Wildwood Trail in Portland’s Forest Park is a great spot for a trail run or even just a good afternoon hike. If you are hiking with kids or a dog do be aware that this trail is the most popular in forest park for trail running in particular. The trail itself is close to 27 miles long so you can absolutely bite off as much as you want in a day. For us, 5 miles did just fine.
This trail was very well maintained for running and there are few hazards like roots and rocks to trip on. Even in the winter, the foliage is a vibrant green color. There were a few benches here and there so if you wanted a chance to stop and soak in the nature you can!
As you can see from the map, there are lots of other trails to choose from. But what’s great is that these trails are VERY well marked so as not to get lost in there. All in all, this is a great spot to go get some nature time if you don't have a whole day to get out of the city.
