Video Gear Review: 2018 SEGO Cleaver 102 All Mountain Ski
Reuben from Next Adventure gives a rundown on SEGO Ski Co. and the Cleaver 102. This is an aggressive all-mountain ski designed with competition in mind.
- Hey, I’m Reuben from Next Adventure. We’re here today talking about the SEGO Cleaver 102.
The Cleaver 102 is for someone who enjoys ripping on groomed runs, and still likes to be able to have a little bit of float in the powder. It has a relatively stiff progressive flex and features fairly drastic tip rocker.
There is approximately 3mm of camber underfoot on each ski and the ski features SEGO’s flat rocker tail. The moderate progression of the tail rocker allows the skier to have a tight turn radius and a short effective edge when the ski is on a groomed run. However, when the ski is turned over on its edge the full length of this ski is still in contact with the snow and allows skiers to push out of turns using the full power of the tail.
The Cleaver 102 comes in 175cm, 181cm, and 187cm lengths. The turn radius varies between 21.5m and 25m depending on the length. The ski is 131mm wide at its widest point in the tip, 102mm underfoot, and 122mm wide at the tail.
SEGO skis are handmade in the United States in Victor, Idaho. The factories proximity to the Tetons means that developers of skis can design them and go out and ride them that very day.
They use incredibly high-quality materials. The bases are made with 4001 Durasurf sintered bases and they use 2.2mm thick oversized steel edges for increased durability. The Cleaver is made with a poplar core and metal stringer running throughout.
SEGO as a brand recognizes that men and women biologically have different bodies and ski differently. Therefore, their men’s line and their women’s line are completely separate. Lynsey Dyer is their most elite pro athlete, and she, in conjunction with other designers, designs the entire women’s line.
The women’s specific skis, such as the Up Pro and the Gnarwhal are totally different and have no men’s counterpart. Just like there is no women’s counterpart of the Cleaver 102.
This ski is fun, playful, and great for someone who likes to push it at speed all over the mountain. Come check out SEGO’s Cleaver 102 or various other SEGO skis in our demo fleet during the 2017-2018 season or take a look at them online at www.nextadventure.net
