Video Gear Review: Edelrid Mega Jul

Value Rating: 9 Durability Rating: 9 Overall Rating: 9 Location Of Test: Indoor and outdoor climbing Duration: 10 routes Product Name: Mega Jul Product Brand: Edelrid Best Use: Lead, TR, and guide mode belaying, rappelling, especially when you have to stop and use both hands to remove pieces Specs: 2.3oz, made of stainless steel compatible with 9.7-10.5mm ropes
The Full Review: The Edelrid Mega Jul is an auto-locking tubular belay device. It's light, slick, and fantastic once you get the hang of it. Upon purchasing one, take some time to play with it and learn all the ins and outs of using it before heading outside. Also make sure you have a carabiner that fits in the hole designed to facilitate easier lowering in guide mode and on rappel. Mega Jul The Good: Very lightweight, most inexpensive autolocking belay device out there, made of durable steel. Mega Jul The Bad: Tricky to use at first, can be hard to uncam at times. Mega Jul The Bottom Line: Buy this device, learn how to use it properly, and you'll be psyched. It's a solid piece of equipment, and it's now my full-time belay device. Mega Jul
